Silent letter ''e''
Ever seen a four letter word? They hide away and slowly creep up on us when we least expect to hear them!
When you meet a four letter word and the word ends in ''e''... take special care- these little guys can really catch you by the tongue!
The first vowel is made longer and louder and the ''e'' on the end is silent...we do not say it aloud!
Examples:
Crim (e)----> pronounced: 'kraim
Gat(e)------> pronounced: gay't
A hat ( pronounced : h ''ah'' t) suddenly
becomes hat(e) ( h ''ey!'' t)
A tap ( pronounced : t''ah'' puh) becomes a tape ( t ''ay'' p)
A cut ( pronounced k''UH'' t)
becomes cute!(kew't)
lov(e)-----> l'uv
Compare:
Tap= AH--------> SHORT VOWEL
Tap(e)= AY-----> LONG VOWEL
